Aston Martin HQ
Aston Martin, renowned luxury British car makers, have been undergoing renovations at their head office in Silverstone, to accommodate their growing workforce and facilities.
Brief
During renovations, outside space was created for employees or visitors to enjoy, but with no shelter it could only be used in good weather. The client approached ARC Structures for a solution, to create a more useable space year-round.
We reviewed a few ideas with the architects, using tensile fabric and ETFE but ultimately settled on a clear polycarbonate roofing system, which is lightweight and transparent. With the building boasting a lot of glass, it was important to find a solution that did not eliminate the natural daylight from the building. The polycarbonate roof allows sun to flood in, while keeping the rain off.
Outcome
The client now has a covered area which allows light into the façade of the building and makes the space below useable in wet weather. Despite renovations not yet being complete, this has already become a well-used area.
