The West Wing is student accommodation located in the heart of Cardiff University, University of South Wales and the vibrant city centre.
Brief
General Contractors Northgate UK contacted ARC with a brief for a bespoke 4×4 shade sail as part of a recent landscaping project. Leading out from the student café area, the courtyard area was identified as an area ripe for refurbishment, as covering the courtyard with a fabric canopy would double the café seating capacity.
Outcome
ARC designed, engineered manufactured and installed a 4 x 4m shade sail to provide protection from the elements so that students could enjoy the outside area, even in the blazing summer sun.
The sail itself was a Com95 shade sail in Steel Grey with the straight steel masts painted in a Colbalt Blue RAL 5013, giving a pop of colour and fun to the newly created courtyard area.
The canopy was completed just at the start of the new September term, and from what we hear has been a god send, almost doubling the seating capacity of the West Wing café.
