Playground Canopy, Keyham Barton School
Keyham Barton Primary is a lovely village school in Plymouth. The school approached us after identifying a sheltered area of the playground that was largely underused by the children and offered fantastic potential to create an outdoor learning space. The school felt that after the children had to endure this last year, now was the time to invest in creating these spaces that would enrich the children’s time at school.
BRIEF
Our brief from the client was to design a school canopy that would function as both an outdoor learning space, as provide well as a sheltered area for play throughout the year and in all weather.
As the area chosen was enclosed on three sides, we designed a timber frame structure with polycarbonate roof to allow the natural light to flood in.
Outcome
The ARC installation team worked with the school to find the ideal time to install the canopy over the school summer holiday, with no disruption to the school or it’s pupils. The job was finished with 10 days of the school holidays remaining – just enough time for the school to add some finishing touches!
Staff from the school worked hard after their new canopy was installed, completing the look with AstroTurf flooring and an interactive whiteboard. The school and pupils alike are delighted with the new learning environment.
I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for the wonderful canopy you installed. I have attached pictures to show you how it looks and how it has transformed the space. We now have an outdoor learning space/classroom. We have installed an outdoor whiteboard so now teachers can take lessons outside no matter what the weather. The children have a space they can shelter from not only the rain, but also the glorious sunshine, as it gets extremely hot in our playground.
I would also like to thank you all for your support on making this project happen. From the initial phone call we made, you have been nothing but the most helpful and the speed in which you manufactured, delivered and installed is nothing but amazing. When the children came to school and saw the canopy they were blown away, as we must not forget everything, we do is to give them the very best education and memories they will carry for ever.
