Queen's Park Bridge
The iconic Queen’s Park Bridge in Rochdale is nearly 100 years old and in need of some repairs. Since late 2023, works have been on going, with local civil engineering and concrete repair expert BDB Special Projects chosen to strengthen the 136-metre bridge over the River Roch.
ARC Structures were approached to install some safety features, while works continue.
Brief
We designed, supplied, and installed an architecturally significant feature to the Queen’s Park Bridge, to prevent pedestrians falling from the existing parapet. The whole bridge parapet was being demolished and carefully rebuilt. So, ARC used the JaKob Webnet, a high strength wire mesh fence, to clad the hot dip galv and painted steel frame.
Outcome
The first half of the bridge has been completed on time and budget and the client is very happy with the outcome so far. ARC’s addition helps to keep the general public safe, while re-constructing an important piece of local architecture.
