Tensile Fabric Entrance Canopy, SAINSBURY’S
The large white tensile fabric entrance canopy at Sainsburys Barnwood is a critical visual brand identifier for the store, as well as providing shelter from the sun and rain for the customers.
So, when it started to tire after twenty years in situ, ARC was contracted to remove the existing tensile fabric canopy and replace them with a shiny brand-new fabric membrane that would return the store’s façade to its former glory.
BRIEF
ARC was contracted by Arcus FM to fabricate the new membranes, remove the existing fabric panels and install the new fabric membranes across the structure. The job was not without its challenges, after a full survey of the steel frame, it become clear that the structure itself needed an overhaul. We had to go back to the drawing board with the client, as we advised on repair and replacement options.
outcome
It was decided that the existing steel structure would be repaired and repainted before the canopy could be replaced. The client opted for a Tor Unicover Ultra S system with a fifteen-year guarantee.
Our installation team then worked through the night to strip out and refit the new fabric PVC coated membrane. In total, 13 fabric panels were removed and reinstalled to the newly revamped steel frame with minimal impact to everyday business at the store.
The result is a bright, elegant white tensile fabric canopy that will now stand the test of time once more. Everyone was delighted with the finished result which was completed ahead of program and within budget.
