Bespoke Tensile Canopy, RAC, Woodcote Park

Woodcote Park is one of two magnificent clubhouses owned by the Royal Automobile Club for their members and families to enjoy. The Fountain Brasserie and Spike Bar is a popular spot, in part thanks to its huge fabulous south facing terrace, the perfect spot for al fresco drinks and dining.

Brief

The RAC contacted ARC with a brief to create an all-weather canopy solution that would allow members to make year-round use of the terrace even when the weather wasn’t at its best.

We contracted the expertise of Artura who worked alongside Mosaic architects to design a large 13m x 9m 8 point bespoke hypar tensile canopy supported by galvanised and painted steel masts, tie rods and perimeter cables to anchor.

Outcome

As the Spike Bar is well used throughout the day, the club decided to include an integrated heating and LED lighting system to increase the usability of the structure into the evening and through the night.  Pre-designed mounting points and internal cabling in the structure creates a seamless and integrated look.

As the dusk pictures show, lighting systems can be used to amazing effect on tensile structures, diffusing the underside and topside of the fabric with stunning results.

Members of the Royal Automobile Club and their families have been making full use of the tensile canopy since its expert install by  Tensile Installations in the spring.

As the tensile canopy is not only fully waterproof, but also blocks 100% of the suns harmful UV rays, the Spike Bar canopy will come into its own come as we approach the summer months.
