Entrance Canopy, New Wolsey Theatre
As part of a £2.8 Million regeneration project to be called Theatre Square, the team at the New Wolsey Theatre approached ARC with ambitions for an iconic entrance canopy to the new building at the out theatre frontage.
BRIEF
ARC was commissioned to design, engineer, manufacture and install a new eye-catching bespoke tensile fabric canopy to the theatre frontage.
The entrance canopy needed to deliver a piece of tensile architecture that would create an impactful first impression to the newly regenerated ‘Theatre Square’, while also ensuring the functionality requirement of provide shelter and shade from the elements.
OUTCOME
Working alongside the architects and team from the theatre, the ARC installation team designed a 20m long entrance canopy in PVC coated gold fabric membrane with a black underside to match the new black resin walls. The fabric was printed gold by Printable. The entire structure was supported by a series of cantilevered steel masts and stainless steel cables. The finished structure arguably delivers the wow factor for visitors to the theatre.
